All the graphic recordings I do at IMD are confidential, as with a lot of strategic or internal projects. I regularly illustrate sessions on marketing, finance, leadership, digital strategy, and more in the EMBA programme. This time, I provided live support for the session where a new class of EMBAs, 60 participants strong, defined the values, operating methods, and references that would forge their identity and enable them to strengthen their group’s cohesion and maximise their learning.
These sessions last one-and-a-half hours and there's no way of preparing in advance, as the content takes shape on the spur of the moment through lively interaction. Along with the tight schedule, the number of speakers is also a challenge! My design is projected continuously onto a side screen, and then onto a large screen in the centre so the participants can add their suggestions.
This almost total improvisation creates a real adrenalin rush and immerses me in the energy of the group with great intensity. The final moment, when I zoom out to show the whole thing, is very gratifying! The participants always applaud and are really enthusiastic. They recognise themselves in the visuals, which give solid form to their discussions. Freehand creation in real-time creates a much stronger emotional bond than any standard presentation or visuals.
