Women for Biodiversity is a network created to defend the right to a healthy environment for all, and which values the roles and contributions of women and girls in achieving transformative change and living in harmony with nature. W4B works in particular to create synergies around the work of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).

I had already worked with W4B at a conference in Geneva in 2022 and I was delighted to be able to work with them again, as their objectives are particularly aligned with my convictions.

The 7th assembly of the Global Environment Facility in 2023 was being held in Vancouver, but was also being transmitted by video to participants in other countries. This is how I produced the graphic recording: online and digitally, from Switzerland. The challenge was the very short format of the conference: barely an hour. That's not a lot of time to finalise a clear and attractive visual.

What's more, in the world of international institutions, the highly diplomatic style of language is much less direct than what I usually hear in the world of management, where the tone is much more direct and the key messages easier to extract.

I was surprised to learn that 60% of the agricultural workforce is female, because I had the stereotype of the male farmer in my head. The reality around the world is quite different, but the fact is that the role of women in this sector is not very visible or valued, and they suffer a great deal of injustice.

I found it very interesting to show graphically the tension between 3 key elements: * The slowness of the international and political process due to its extreme complexity and sensitivity * The urgency of change * The risk of developing policies that are too uniform and disconnected from the reality on the ground. These 3 dynamics coexist in the sketchnote, culminating in a message of hope and an invitation to get involved.
